Stop throwing your curve ball. These kids can't hit you.
If you want to win at rook you need to get trump out first.
Don't be nice to that stupid cat.
Don't put any more money into that Kia. I'm surprised it's been going so long as it is.
Just kidding. The best advice Dad gives is no advice. He's helped me grow up better than any other person in this world. He's always there if you really need to hear the right words, but most of the time he's helped me figure things out on my own.
I really wish I could remember this better, but I was sitting in the kitchen watching Les juice wheat grass. His expression told me all I needed to know about wheat grass when he drank it. Afterwards, he said something that was so funny. I've been trying to remember exactly what he said, but I guess I've learned never to drink wheat grass. :)
I think I asked Les one time, he having many more children than I, or even than I could imagine, how he was going to watch after them after they got married, and he said he wouldn't even consider it, that once they marry and leave the house they are totally on their own and he wouldn't worry about them any more, that he had done his part, and they could do as they pleased. David, his older and much "Les" wise brother.
"Don't listen to your dumb math teacher. This is how you do it."
"It doesn't matter how much you make, it matters how much you SPEND"
"You can't force your kids(Addy) to do things. You have to let them be the adults they are going to become and you'll be amazed to watch them turn into a better person than you"
"You can't grow tomatoes if you're not going to water them"
Thank you Dad for all of the heart-felt words through the years. The most amazing advice you have given me has about humility and repentance. I really appreciate the love and support you have given me!
Nancy says: Well, Les is not my “Dad,” but I will give this a try. Just the other day Les told me to “Grow Up” and I thought that was pretty good advice!! But more seriously, Les gave me a couple of blessings years ago that really helped me and I have to say that I surely did appreciate that he was willing to do that.
Bev says-I asked Les if he thought I should do something and he said, "That depends on the reason why you're doing it. If you're doing it because of what someone will think, then you probably shouldn't do it." He taught me how to make gravy!! Love you!
just a few weeks after I was engaged, I was bombarded with lots of advice from the soon-to-be in laws. At one point, I was so overwhelmed that I called Dad in tears. Dad listened to all my concerns and then said, "If you pray about something and get an answer, then do what you feel and don't worry about what ANYONE else thinks." I think about that often and it has helped me so much over the years.
He does things for the right reasons and has shown us (by example) that the only person worth pleasing is God.
Something that I think dad did better than any of my friends parents was that he would let you choose what you wanted to do, rather than tell you what to do. He always help you out by telling you what he thought, but always left the decision up to you. I grew a lot from that.
This isn't exactly advice, but one time I was a teenager and I wanted to have a sleepover with Julie. He told me I could if I went to bed early. I told I would, however my friends had other plans. I followed the crowd and ended up leaving Julie's house at a late hour. Mom and Dad found out and somehow got a hold of someone to call me home. When I got home Dad just said to me, "You told me you would go to bed". I felt SO bad because I knew that he really trusted that I would keep my word and was disappointed when I didn't. He taught me that I should be honest.
Right before I got on the plane for my mission, Dad told me not to stress about the mission rules too much. I remember being shocked, because I had just been in the MTC and all they talk about is following rules. It was such good advice for me though. My mission was really hard and I needed him to remind me of the reason I was there. It helped me to have more fun and relax. Dad always has an answer for us - and it isn't what we would expect. He is such a good example too. He doesn't have to say anything to give us good advice!
Philip wants to thank him for getting him going with food storage.
Ashton says he wrote in a birthday card once, "Have a good Birthday and keep your nose clean!" She thinks it was in Ethan's card - that makes the advice even better!

Never take credit for anything that your kids do.
Randy I told you that you cant tell Kristy what to do...
Hmmm....seems like Addy is alot like her mom
Randy you are going to go set if you bid that high....I promise :)
Everybody knows that the best advise that Les gives is to stay out of other peoples business and dont give out advise
Never pay full price for anything.
You can never have too many kids or too much food storage.

Grandpa's best advice would be,"put your suitcases on!"

Always read scriptures together and have FHE every week. ...That also might be the only advice I remember getting from Les.
